Pierless Adventures - March 20 - Holier than thou
Mexico is a shopping challenge for northerners of more generous stature. I have been looking for socks and flip-flops down here with no success. I'm not really a flip-flop person, but Scott seems to think they are important for personal hygiene when in community shower stalls. I think his concern stems from years in the navy with shipmates who practice a more liberal form of cleanliness...
We did find socks at Walmart. The package implied they were one size fits all. In a fit of optimism, we purchased two packages. In retrospect, I think the correct translation may have been "One size fits anyone with small feet". I could barely get them over my heal and the fabric was so tight over my arch, it cut off my circulation! I still have not seen any flipflops large enough to fit my size 14 feet. I'll keep looking.
Today being Sunday, it was quiet in the boatyard. We decided to have an easier day as well. We did tackle some morning projects. We fixed the starboard water tank leak and repaired the stern navigation light (new bulb and general cleanup)
Later we walked over to Del Gato (a nearby restaurant) for a change of scenery and to use their WiFi. We hoped to buy some cool drinks, but they don't open until noon. I needed a hole saw for the radar wiring, so I proceeded up to the hardware store. They were closed (should have guessed). Not wanting to be defeated in my quest, I hoofed it on to the mall where Sears still exists. This is a walk of about a mile. Not bad this time of year. I did not care for it last spring when the temps were in the 90s. Sears, once the mecca of affordable quality tools, had no hole saws. Really not many tools at all. So, off to Walmart. Success! I picked up a hole saw and a few other items, then headed back, stopping at AutoZone for spare bulbs and lube.
We drilled the new hole and installed all the proper hardware. Now we are ready for the radar installation - we just have to wait for it to arrive via UPS.
I got some oranges at the grocery store the other day. They are a bit different than what I am used to and although the flavor was delicious, I think it had a bone in it. It certainly had a lot of fiber, like a delicious orange-flavored coconut husk and just one orange will keep you busy for half an hour at least.
Today we stopped at the local pizza place to get a lemonade but they weren't open yet so we waited in the shade and enjoyed their free WiFi. A young senorita who worked there had a shirt on that was just this side of see-through and in the sun, the other side of it. Shocked, I gave her a disapproving look for 4 or 5 minutes, sometimes shifting position to disapprove more clearly.
We cut a hole in the boat today and Brian is so tickled with it I might surprise him with a few more. I'll let you know.
