Pierless Adventures - March 14 - Monday Update
Warmer today - maybe by 10 degrees.
We reconnected the batteries yesterday and got the solar charger running. Batteries looked fine, so that was a relief. We hooked up shore power on Saturday, so we had live 110 outlets and one light up to this point.
Had good coffee and cereal for breakfast. We can now make meals, sandwiches, etc.
The first order of business today was to get the deck cleaned. 8 months of dirt, palm tree debris and dust accumulation. There was a mild hurricane in November which may have accounted for much of this... Having the deck clean, apart from just having it clean, means we can move stuff out of the cabin to make room for inside cleaning and working on interior projects. We removed the tarp, set up the hose and did a pretty good cleaning job. We hauled out sails, dodger, water jugs, ropes, paddle board, etc. and piled it on the port side below the boom. We then set the tarp up again to protect everything from the sun and occasional rain.
We installed the electronic equipment (radios, AIS, chart plotter). Radios seem fine. Need to sort out a power problem with the other electronics on Tuesday.
Scott's luggage did not come on Saturday. We heard it should arrive Sunday, but no word by dinner. It had been a long day, so we just made sandwiches for dinner and ate some fruit. About 8:00 Scott gets a call that his baggage was dropped off at a hotel about 2 miles south of us. We didn't want to risk leaving it any longer than necessary, so went out to get it. Scott called an Uber who took us there. The Harbor El Cid is a very upscale place. I think we did not quite dress the part! We picked up the bags and our driver took us back to the boat. Scott can now relax a bit!
Tomorrow we will clear out the aft port quarter and sort/toss. This will pave the way to replace a water hose that is leaking and let us get general storage as well as food stores organized.
Well, off to the showers and to bed...
Hi Brian!
ReplyDeleteI mistakenly thought you were departing from home on the 15th, so I missed harassing you via the phone before you left. So glad Scott's luggage arrived. Try to stay cool and hydrated and remember you've got lots of folks pulling for you on this grand adventure! Keep up the blog posts.
