Pierless Adventures - March 15 - Water Works

We cleared out the aft port storage area.  Updated inventory and worked on sorting and tossing.  This is the area where one of the two water tanks is located.  The filler hose on the port tank is leaking, so we need to replace it.  Clearing this area out provides us access to do the work.  We also went through the items in the starboard storage area to get a start on cleaning that area out.

Once cleared out, we verified the location of the leak and cut off the filler hose above the leak to prep for the repair.  The original hose is very stiff - almost  like plastic pipe - and of an unknown material.  We are not sure if PVC glue will work on it or not, so we will do some testing.  I brought replacement hose, but we decided we needed some fittings to make the connection, so off to Home Depot.

We timed the bus perfectly, stopped at the cash machine for some cash, and hopped a second bus to Home Depot.  It was the end of the day and many workers were riding home on the bus.  This bus in particular was quite packed and lacked the leg room needed for long legs, so we squeezed our legs in sideways.  My knees suffered a bit...  The trip took us along the tourist section of Mazatlan.   Lots of shops, hotels and people to look at as we passed.

Home Depot in MX is a little different than back in  the states.  Superficially, the store is the same.  However, organization and product selection can be frustrating.  We had sections of both hoses, so did the best with what we could fine and I think we can cobble together a fix for the leak.

We quickly hopped a bus back and went directly to Del Gato for pizza dinner.  Then back to the boat for showers and to bed.  The weather continues to remain cooler, which is much appreciated!

From Scott:

Admittedly, I got off to a rough start, what with the lost baggage and all, but I have since been reunited with my delicates.  My Spanish is somewhat limited, "Es esso uno Canguro?" being the one complete phrase I know.  I am learning more daily due to immersion.  It is a slow process, but me talk pretty one day.  I'm pretty sure I told the gate guard that my luggage eloped.  The people here are kind and patient and put up with the eccentricities of us and that is all anyone can ask.
