March 11, 2023 - Stove Woes
March 11:
Having shopped yesterday, I was looking forward to a breakfast of granola, fruit and coffee. I haven't had any coffee since I left home, and the coffee here is pretty good. Because refrigeration is not universal here, many foods, including milk, are sold in sterilized containers which do not need refrigeration until opened. Perfect for boat life! While I do have refrigeration, it is about the size of a cooler, so not handy for large quantities. The sterilized products reduce the number of times I have to shop.
Back to breakfast... Last year we were having problems with the stove staying lit. There is a safety device called a thermocouple which shuts off the gas if heat is not sensed. This is a good thing if the stove is turned on by accident or the flame blows out. In my case, it never seems to sense heat even when the stove is going. I tried getting new thermocouples, but the manufacturer said they no longer provide them for my model. So, I had to hold the stove knob the entire time while waiting for the water to get hot for my coffee! This will need to be remedied!
After eating, I walked over to the lounge to use the marina wifi to update my devices. I have a data plan on my Mexico phone, but it is limited, so I use the lounge wifi for anything data intensive. It works quite well, but is limited to the lounge area.
Mornings are usually quiet and peaceful. Cool air and usually no wind. The nightlife here goes on until the wee hours just about every night. Loud music and boats coming and going. I am at the end of the pier, so it is not too loud. Saturday and Sunday seem to be the the busiest nights. Everyone sleeps in late, so morning is a nice time of day. Most stores open later as well.
I finished up deck cleaning today and set up the tarp. The shade will be nice! The boat looks so much nicer. I intended to take a picture before cleaning it, but forgot... I found a small leak in my fresh water pump, but a new O-ring should fix it. The laptop also had some problems, but appears to have fixed itself.... We'll see
Freshly washed deck.
That's about it for today. Heading to the showers followed by a light dinner. I really hope the cool weather lasts a while. It is giving me time to let my body adjust.
