March 23, 2023 - Meager Breakfast...
I have a large floor fan that is set up in the bow hatch to pull air through the cabin. This provides a nice breeze and cools the boat at night. It serves the added function of venting the limited but worrysome fumes from my cockroach eradication efforts... This poor fan runs 24/7. I check it every few days to see that it is turning freely and there is not too much dust buildup. Yesterday when I power cycled it, it was very slow to get up to speed - a sure sign the bearings need lube. This became today's first task. After disassembly, cleaning, lubrication and reassembly, it seems quite content to keep providing me its valued service.
Feeling good about my start for the day, I heated water for coffee and made breakfast. I find meals can be revealing in a number of ways. What one prepares for a meal is influenced by many things including weather, mood, fatigue, the tools you have on hand and, of course, the contents of your pantry. This leads me to today's entree: Peanut butter and jam sandwich with a side of chips... Since I am feeling fine, the weather is good and most things on the boat are working fine, this meal tells me I have delayed a shopping trip for too long! Today, I provision!
After eating, I started in on the stove repair. Too early to tell how this will go, but I remain hopeful.
The silicone gasket I fashioned for the water tank has set up well. I tightened it some this morning, but still smell the fumes it gives off when curing. I'll let it cure another day and see how it is tomorrow. There's no hurry and I want it well cured before I fill the tank.
I am at the marina lounge now, using their internet to download some information and update this blog. I'll wrap up soon and head to the store. I don't want PBJ for breakfast tomorrow!

My shopping trip went well. Took the bus to Walmart and stocked up. It was a heavy load to haul on the bus, but provided a good upper body workout. Maybe Uber next time...
I signed up for Medicare before heading south and thought I was all set, but apparently I missed a step of the process. Part of the afternoon was taken up trying to sort it out. Being in MX complicated things, but with Tracy's help from home, we may have it sorted out.
My pier neighbors invited me and another sailor to dinner at a nearby restaurant. I don't go out much but, being alone on the boat all the time, the opportunity to share a meal with friends was a welcomed change. The food was good, as was the company.
