Saturday I cleaned out the locker that holds all the equipment manuals. Not too exciting, but good to have it done. I took off the kayak racks since I sold the kayak... We had a little sprinkle of rain - I think the second time since I have been here. Later in the day I went shopping for food.
Sunday was hot. The heat really knocks me out. I did odd jobs around the cabin and later had Harry and his dog Elmer over for dinner - burritos of course!
Monday was more productive. I installed the lee cloths on both sides of the cockpit. These are fabric which is attached to the railings and protects me from some of the wind, sun and spray. They make the cockpit cozy...
I have had some difficulty getting my new radar reflector installed in the correct position. I doubled down on this issue today and now have it hanging correctly. The angle it hangs at is important in order for it to reflect correctly.
I paired my tablet with my chart plotter. This allows me to see what is on the chart plotter when using the tablet. It basically makes the chart plotter mobile. It also lets me mount the plotter in the cabin and use the tablet outside. This effectively protects the plotter from the elements (though it is waterproof), and let's me put the tablet at higher risk since it is much less expensive to replace. I also set up a mounting device for the tablet so it can be held in a convenient position in the cockpit. I'm not sure if I will keep this arrangement. It seems a little too easy to bump.
I use two fans to keep the boat cool. One large one in the bow hatch blows air out, thereby drawing air through the boat continuously. A smaller fan is in the cabin and I move it around as needed to keep air blowing on me. This system has worked out quite well, but Mazatlan is a dirty/dusty place. Both fans needed a good cleaning and the bearings needed lubrication, so I took them both apart today, cleaned and lubed them and put them back together. They will be happy for a while now.
